About me and the project
I am a Swedish wildlife biologist pursuing a PhD in Mongolia. The next years to come I will spend in a Ger (Mongolian tent) camp in the Tost mountains, southern Gobi. Tost is located ca 370 km west of Dalanzadgad and 45 km southwest of Gurvantes, at 2000-2500 m.a.s.l.
The study is called Long Term Ecological Study (or LTES) and is run by two organizations – The International Snow Leopard Trust (www.snowleopard.org) and Panthera (www.panthera.org). This is the first long-term study on snow leopards, we are aiming to collect both good scientific data and improve conservation actions. My job is to run the fieldwork, in August 2008 I started catching snowleopards to put GPS collars on them.
This page is intended to work as a diary for my time in Mongolia, the text reflects my thoughts and experiences, not the snow leopard trust’s or panthera’s. I will try to update the blog as often while I am in field. During my time off in Sweden I do not update the blog. For more info about the project and the camp, please visit www.snowleopard.org

Tjena Örjan, sorry you internationals for writing in swedish. Kalle här som du träffade tillsammans med Fredrik Cederlund dagar innan du skulle åka. Fredrik har tursamt nedlagt två bockar kring Morskoga, tyvärr har jag helt misslyckats, men skam den som ger sig.
Ser fram emot att läsa om dina vidare äventyr.

Började på markforsvar.se… vidare på flygbasjägarna.se… för att läsa om din bravur.
Roligt att se någon i liknande fotspår som mig själv. Lite sent i livet provade jag på att jobba i vildmarken och blev färdig wildlife-ranger och trails-guide för södra Afrika härom året efter att ha bott och pluggat där.
Väl tillbaka till Sverige, blir det nog att fortsätta att jobba inom IT – så jag avundas dig på ett positivt sätt och önskar dig verkligen lycka till i projektet och i livet.

Örjan!
Du är en folkhjälte av mått och rang! Hoppas att allt går bra där borta! Har lite svårt att hinna hänga med på bloggen (duktigt överbelastad på jobbet och hemma tar förstås barnen större delen av den vakna tiden). Gobi måste vara en höjdare jämfört med att sitta och trängas på tunnelbanan i rusningstrafik – det är inte utan att man blir lite avundsjuk.

I have been following your blog for some time and have done some editing for the Snow Leopard Trust – wonderful stuff!
